Lights Camera Action!

Hi

We have just finished performing The Year Five Production: Hanging Onto The Bottom Of The World. It was super fun! My role was to be a Tea Lady which by the way was the best role. I was in most of the scenes and had quite a few lines. My job was to hand out tea and sandwiches and make the audience laugh. Though in one of the last scenes my role had a deeper meaning, which was gender equality and how the only women in the play were making tea and sandwiches for the men.

The first scene was my time to shine as I had a lot of lines and no one else apart from the tea ladies were on stage. I helped setup the play and keep the audience engaged before the commentators Bruce and Eddie came on to introduce all the states. Everyone did a terrific job as their character and everyone’s character suited their personality. The show ran smoothly and kept everyone interested. it was super cool to see how much everyone  had grown into their role since the start of the rehearsals. I remember the first time we got our lines where we all sat in a circle and read them, no one had any expression and we were all generally bored but now even I who’s seen the scenes over and over again still couldn’t take my eyes off the person talking.

Everyone had a special costume to wear when onstage I had to wear an apron to symbolise I was an old tea lady. The Governors had to wear black jackets and top hats. Convicts had to wear old raggedy shirts. Brides wore veils and special tiaras that had something to do with their state.

On the evening performance my mum, grandma, half brother and half sister came to watch me. It was fun to see them smiling and laughing during the play. They gave me good feedback on my performance and said I did really well.

A lot of people helped set up and run the play. Ms Quodling Ms Haines and Tim helped us practice and helped us become a better actor in our character. They helped us set up all the scenes and worked really hard to make they play as good as it could be. Our specialist teachers donated their time to help do things for the play, such as teaching us a song to sing in the play, or make props.

Overall the play was a really fun experience and I would love to do something like it again.

Has your school ever done a play? If so did you enjoy it?

  1. Hey Scarlet,

Great reflective post. Good to hear that you received such positive feedback from family. Certainly is well-deserved to you and to everyone in the play!
